What actually drives the cost of an Odoo project

Most Odoo quotes are vague because the honest answer depends on a handful of variables. These are the ones that move the number, in roughly the order they matter:

1. How many apps you turn on

A business running Odoo for CRM and quoting is a different project from one running manufacturing, inventory, accounting, and field service together. Each additional app adds configuration, testing, and training time. A single-app rollout can land inside a 25-hour pack. Four or five connected apps is usually 50 to 100 hours.

2. The state of your existing data

Clean data in a spreadsheet imports quickly. Fifteen years of QuickBooks history with duplicate customers, inconsistent part numbers, and handwritten records takes real work to map and clean. Data migration is the single most commonly underestimated line item in an ERP project, and it is where most of the surprise hours come from.

3. How far you stray from standard Odoo

Odoo out of the box handles most common business processes. Cost climbs when your process genuinely cannot bend to the software: custom PDF layouts, unusual pricing rules, catch weight, case-break inventory, or a workflow no other business runs. We push hard toward configuration over code, because configured Odoo upgrades cleanly and custom code does not.

4. Integrations with other systems

Every system Odoo has to talk to adds scope. A payment processor or shipping connector is usually straightforward. A legacy system with no modern API, or a two-way sync that has to stay consistent, is a project of its own.

5. How many people need training

Five users in one office is a very different training effort from forty across three shifts. Training is the part clients most often cut to save money, and the part that most reliably determines whether the system actually gets used after go-live.

Odoo licensing is not the same as implementation

This trips up nearly every first-time buyer, so it is worth stating plainly. There are two costs in an Odoo project and they go to two different places:

Odoo licensing, paid to Odoo

A per-user subscription billed by Odoo S.A., not by us. The price depends on your user count, which plan you are on, and whether you self-host. Odoo Community is free to license; Enterprise is not. Current rates are on odoo.com, and we will tell you honestly which edition you actually need rather than defaulting you to the expensive one.

Implementation, paid to DewWow

The packages on this page. Configuration, data migration, customization, integration, and training, billed as prepaid hours. This is the work of turning a blank Odoo database into something that runs your business.

Hosting is a third, much smaller cost. Odoo Online includes it, Odoo.sh is a paid tier, and self-hosting means your own server. We will walk you through which fits before you commit to anything.

How long each package typically takes

Hours are prepaid and flexible, so the calendar time depends partly on how quickly your team can review and make decisions. These are realistic ranges from past projects:

Package Typical calendar time Best fit
Discovery, 4 hours 1 to 2 weeks Evaluating Odoo, or one specific fix
Essentials, 25 hours 3 to 5 weeks One to three apps, clean data, small team
Core, 50 hours 6 to 10 weeks Three to five apps with real data migration
Advanced, 100 hours 8 to 14 weeks Custom requirements and integrations
Enterprise, 200 hours 3 to 6 months Multi-department rollouts, phased go-live

If a project needs more hours than the pack you bought, we tell you before we spend them, not after.

Odoo pricing questions we get asked

What does an Odoo implementation cost?

For a small or mid-sized Wisconsin business, most projects land between $1,550 and $5,500 in implementation work. A simple single-app setup can be done in a 25-hour Essentials pack at $1,550. A full multi-app rollout with data migration is usually the 50-hour Core pack at $2,900 or the 100-hour Advanced pack at $5,500. Odoo licensing is separate and paid to Odoo.

What is your hourly rate?

$65 per hour on the smallest pack, scaling down to $50 per hour on the largest. Buying more hours lowers the effective rate. All work is done by our Wisconsin team, never offshored.

Do the hours expire?

No. Prepaid hours stay on your account and can be used for any combination of configuration, development, training, or support. You can see your remaining balance any time in your client portal.

What happens if we run out of hours?

We flag it before it happens, not after. You can top up with another pack at the same rates. We would rather have an awkward conversation at hour 40 than send a surprise invoice at hour 60.

Is Odoo Community or Enterprise better for us?

It depends on which apps you need. Community is free to license and covers CRM, sales, inventory, manufacturing, and website. Enterprise adds accounting automation, field service, quality, PLM, studio, and the mobile apps. We will tell you which one your requirements actually call for.

Why are you less expensive than other US partners?

Small team, low overhead, and no sales commission layered into the rate. We are a Mukwonago shop, not a national consultancy with regional offices to fund. You are paying for the person doing the work.

Do you work with businesses outside Wisconsin?

Yes. Most work happens remotely, so location is rarely a constraint. Onsite time is included in the 50-hour pack and above, which is easiest for businesses within driving distance of the Milwaukee and Waukesha area.
