Your Salesforce records and files, backed up to your own Mac
Ideal for: admins and consultants who want a copy of an org’s data they can keep, read and hand over
Try it before you buy. The 14-day free trial is in the app and needs no card. Get Org Launcher and back up an org to start it. The trial also shows that your login can back up your org before you pay. Buying here starts the subscription straight away, at $10 a month.
Data Backup is the one paid part of Org Launcher, the free Mac app for Salesforce admins. It copies an org’s records into plain CSV files on your own Mac, along with its files and a list of which record each file belongs to. It runs on its own, as often as every hour.
It replaces Salesforce’s own Data Export. That export makes zip files every week or every month. Salesforce emails you when they are ready and deletes them about two working days later, or as soon as the next export is queued. Somebody has to download them in time.
What’s Included
- Your records, in ordinary CSV files that Excel, Numbers or any spreadsheet can open
- Files and attachments as they are, with a list of which record each Salesforce File is linked to
- The first backup is a complete one. After that, only what has changed, with a complete one again every four weeks unless you change that
- Records that were deleted, so you can see what went and when
- A warning when more records are deleted than usual
- Restore from This Backup: put deleted records back, and put changed fields back after a wrong mass update
- Every hour, every day or every week, even when Org Launcher is closed
- One subscription for all your orgs, on up to two computers
Worth Knowing First
- Your backup is kept on your Mac, or on a disk you choose. The records never pass through DewWow
- You choose what to restore: you tick the records, and for changed records, the fields. There is no one-click restore of a whole org
- Deleted records come back with their own Ids only while they are still in Salesforce’s Recycle Bin. Salesforce keeps them there for up to 15 days, or 30 if Salesforce Support has extended it, and for less if someone empties the bin. Records that have left the bin can be re-created from the backup as new records, with new Ids. Files are not re-attached
- It is a backup of your records and files, not of your setup. Flows and page layouts are not in it. Some setup comes along as rows in the CSV files, such as profiles, record types and the text of Apex code, but none of it can be deployed back to an org from the backup
- A backup holds only what its login can see. When you open the backup window, the app checks whether that login has View All Data and Query All Files, and says so if it does not. It cannot check which fields the login can see, so fields hidden from it are left out without a warning
- Unless you change it, the last three complete backups are kept, with the changes since each
- Scheduled backups run while your Mac is on and you are logged in. A backup missed while the Mac was asleep or switched off runs once it is back on. A complete backup waits until a laptop is plugged in
- Each file is one request to Salesforce. To leave room for your other tools, file downloads pause when less than a fifth of the org’s daily allowance is left, so a first backup of many files can take a few days
- Needs macOS 14 or later, and the Salesforce CLI, which Org Launcher uses to sign in. Since September 2025, a new sign-in through the Salesforce CLI needs the permission “Approve Uninstalled Connected Apps”. The standard System Administrator profile has it. If your org uses API Access Control, the permission is “Use Any API Client” instead. An admin can also install the Salesforce CLI app in the org
- Your org needs API access. Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance and Developer Edition have it, and Professional Edition only with Salesforce’s API add-on. The login you back up as also needs the API Enabled permission
After you subscribe, your key arrives by email, with the subject “Your Org Launcher licence key”. In Org Launcher, open Settings, then Subscription, paste the key and press Use This Key. You can cancel from your DewWow account whenever you like. If you cancel, backups keep working to the end of the month you paid for.
Org Launcher itself is free. This subscription switches on Data Backup. If the subscription ends, nothing is deleted and nothing is locked: your backups stay where they are and stay readable, and Restore from This Backup keeps working. Only new backups stop.
